The piece 199 Stemmer (199 Voices) consist of two different parts, both relating to the memorial monument for the citizens of Sønderborg that fell during the First World War. Part one (10 channel audio piece) was surrounding the monument at Kirketorvet. Part two (3 channel audio piece) was placed inside Sct Marie Church. Both parts was composed based on sound material consisting of recordings of living citizens of Sønderborg reciting the 199 names of the local soldiers that fell during the First World War. Those names are ingraved into monument. Through the composition of voices a new sensory connection is created between the present day inhabitants of Sønderborg and their history.

The piece is commissioned by Define Festival and Sct Marie Church in collaboration with Sønderborg Municipality and Uwe Wolff Foundation
